The New Collection of Abstract Wave Layered Lino Prints in Seasonal Hues

Step into a world where the beauty of Tynemouth Longsands and Whitley Bay Beach comes alive through art, where wavy lines and seasonal colours converge to create captivating and timeless Lino prints. I am thrilled to introduce my latest collection of limited edition Lino prints, inspired by the ever-changing seasons and the rhythmic patterns of the North Sea.

As the seasons shift and nature transforms, my prints capture the essence of the North Sea in every layer of ink. My collection of wave layered Lino prints echoes the beauty of each season.

Every print features meticulously carved wavy lines, replicating the ebb and flow of the North Sea, while the layering technique adds depth and dimension to each piece.

In keeping with my commitment to craftsmanship, each print is produced in limited quantities, ensuring their exclusivity. Numbered and signed, these prints are true collector's items, ready to adorn your walls and elevate your décor.

inspiration

When I was growing up in the North West of England, I didn’t go to the coast much. When I did, it was on a day trip to Wales - Bangor, Llandudno and other places nearby. I loved skimming pebbles (not that I was any good at it) and watching the waves come in and out.

Later in life, I moved to Newcastle with my husband (where he’s from). We had had our wedding reception in Tynemouth as it was a special place for us. I often return here for walks with my daughter, looking for interesting shells and pebbles and jumping in and out of the sea.

Waves ebbing and flowing at the coast along the North Sea.

Whitley Bay also has a special place in my heart as it is where my Gramps was from. It seems to pull me back and bring me calm just being there in the bay. I love to walk through the waves, check out the stacked cairns and visit the boutique shops in Spanish City.

The Lino Print Process

I knew I wanted to explore how the colours of the sea seem to change with seasonal light so I started by collecting photos and playing around with colour combinations in my sketchbook. I often doodle with watercolours before an idea starts to take shape. Pushing the colours around helps me to think.

After that, I watch the videos from recent walks and paused them at regular intervals to sketch the lines created by the waves. It was fun to see how the layered lines created new shapes.

Once I settled on a design I was happy with, it was time to transfer it to the blocks and get carving. I layered 4 blocks for each design - each one with a different colour.

Then the real fun begins! Time to mix inks to match the seasonal palettes and layer gorgeous inks on top of each other.

After a few weeks of drying (it typically takes a week for each layer depending on the weather and paper), the prints are ready to name, number and sign.It can take me a while to settle on the names but given that the inspiration came from specific venues combined with the seasons, the names came about reasonably easily.

There are between 7 and 10 of each print, making them truly exclusive.

Who are these prints for?

These timeless abstract pieces are ideally suited to lovers of colourful abstract art, people who enjoy coastal walks, residents of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay and people with modern homes and a love of craftsmanship.

They make wonderful gifts for locals or for people who simply enjoy the sea.
