Golden Hours: The Inspiration Behind My Autumn Prints

There’s something about autumn that always feels like a fresh beginning wrapped in nostalgia. The air turns crisp, the light softens, and everything seems to glow with gold and copper tones. It’s my favourite time to walk – boots crunching through fallen leaves, a scarf pulled close, and smiley dog walkers out in the droves.

These are the moments that inspired my latest collection of limited edition lino prints: Sycamore, Oak, Autumn, and Horse Chestnut. Each design is a love letter to the small, fleeting joys that make this season so special.

Finding Inspiration Outdoors

My ideas almost always start with time outside or at least memories of times when I did. I notice the way sycamore seeds spiral to the ground, the shimmer of sunlight through an oak leaf, or the excitement of finding a perfect conker still nestled in its spiky shell. These tiny encounters are easy to overlook, but to me they hold all the beauty of the season. No walk is the same even in the same park.

I hand carved each leaf and seed into lino to capture those textures and forms. The carving process itself is slow and grounding – it’s a rhythm that feels a lot like walking through the woods, where time stretches and everything else fades away. This stage of the creation process is in itself a meditation.

Treasured Materials for a Special Project

Each print is created using traditional gold and copper inks on textured papers that I’ve treasured for more than 25 years. I kept them safely tucked away, knowing I’d one day find the right project for them. The way the inks settle into the texture of the paper gives every print a gentle, organic shimmer – like the way sunlight filters through autumn branches. Ordinarily, I would advocate using materials and never keeping them for best but these papers perfectly matched the mood I wanted to achieve in this collection.

The Feeling of Coming Home

For me, autumn isn’t just about the colours or the changing leaves. It’s about the feeling of coming home. The warmth of a mug between your hands after a walk, the soft layers of scarves and jumpers, the contented tiredness at the end of the day. These prints are my way of bottling that feeling – the quiet joy that lives in the everyday moments of the season.

Bring Autumn Indoors

There are just 8 prints of each design, making them a true limited edition. Whether you choose one or collect all four, they bring a touch of autumn’s luxurious golden light into your home all year around.

If you love autumn walks, nature, and beautiful craftsmanship, I hope this collection helps you hold onto that feeling of the season all year round.
