Why It Takes Time: The Art of Creating a Lino Print Edition

In a world of mass production and next-day delivery, hand-crafted art stands apart — not just for how it looks, but for how it's made. If you've ever wondered why it takes time for a new print edition from The Peacock and the Printmaker to be released, the answer lies in something timeless: craftsmanship, care, and an unhurried devotion to quality.

The Slow Magic of Printmaking

Every one of my limited edition lino prints begins long before ink touches paper. It starts with an idea — often sparked by a memory, a dream, or something beautiful I’ve seen in nature. From there, it grows into a sketch, then a carved design, before being hand-printed in small, carefully curated batches.

This is a process that doesn’t rush.

Each stage — from concept to carving, inking to pressing — is a slow unfolding. The lino block must be carved by hand, often over several days. The carving is detailed, meditative work, where every mark is permanent and intentional. There’s no undo button in this kind of art.

Quality Over Quantity

Once the carving is complete, the printing begins. I roll ink by hand, testing and adjusting for consistency. I print each piece one at a time using a traditional printing press, checking every impression for clarity, richness, and alignment. If even a small slip or smudge occurs, that print is set aside. Only the best are selected for the final edition.

This means that every piece you receive has been through hours of attentive labour — and no two are ever exactly alike.

Crafted to Last

My print editions aren’t just made to be looked at — they’re made to be lived with. I use artist-grade, archival inks and papers that are designed to last for generations. This isn’t fast fashion for your walls — it’s slow art for soulful spaces.

Every limited edition is signed, numbered, and documented so you know exactly what you're getting — and just how special it is.

Behind the Scenes, In the Studio

Many of my collectors love seeing how their prints are made. That’s why I regularly share glimpses into my process on Instagram and in The Curated Nest — my seasonal lifestyle magazine for art lovers and home-makers who value the unique, the joyful, and the well-made.

The making of each edition is more than just a process — it’s a quiet ritual. A rhythm. A conversation between hand and material. And that kind of work, quite simply, takes time.

The Beauty of the Wait

So the next time you see a print marked “coming soon” or “in progress,” know that something beautiful is being carefully crafted just for you. A little slower, yes — but always with joy, colour, and care.
