5 Easy Social Media Ideas for artists (that work on multiple platforms)
Social media does not have to be hard but it can feel overwhelming.
As an artist, you’re most likely doing all of the marketing yourself on top of managing stock in shops, emailing your newsletter and networking. That aside from the actual making of the art.
Artist Content That Works
With that in mind, I thought I'd share with you what is working for me. All of these things are really easy to create and should take very little time to create.
Over the last few weeks, the following things have been successful in my artists social media…
Showing my face - whether that's a nice photo, chatting on stories or seeing my face while I work, showing my face always engages my audience more than just seeing my work or my hands. If you're shy then just start with a time lapse.
Movement - time lapses of making, hanging, signing and filming around my work. Mixing it up helps me find the sweet spot of what my audience likes the best.
Short reels - 7 seconds is optimum. People have a short attention span. If it loops then that's even better because people then watch it multiple times and the algorithm LOVES that. These reels can also be downloaded and reused as YouTube shorts or pins on Pinterest if that's something that fits your strategy.
Close ups - what separates an original from a reproduction is the textures and fine details. Close ups in video or photo form illustrate this beautifully.
Dreamy slow-mos - the world is moving fast so sometimes a slow-mo of walking through some bluebells, mixing paint or sketching is a nice antidote to the madness.
Your task
Pick one and try it in reels and carousels - add some trending audio if you’re not talking - then look back in a week and see how it went.
If they work well then use them on other platforms, in your newsletters and even in your blogs (I have used this content in this blog, an email to mentoring clients and a carousel on my Instagram - people engage in different ways).
