‘Stormy’ Hand Printed Lino Reduction Print of a Deep Blue Wave Curling Over In Front of a Pink and Purple Sunset, Inspired by The North East Coast of England
Stormy – Limited Edition Lino Print
Inspired by the energy of the sea and the calm it brings.
Let this piece transport you to the Northumberland coast — where wind and waves meet pink-blushed skies and the hush of a storm sets your thoughts adrift. Stormy was born from a windswept walk along the rocks at Beadnell Bay, a moment of peace and power as the sea churned below and the colours of sunset danced above.
Back in the studio, I explored how that feeling could live on through colour — with bold blues and teals for the surf, deep purples and pinks for the sky, and gentle white layers to evoke the wash and spray of moving water. Look closely and you’ll spot a shimmer of sunset blush peeking through the sea, a glimmer of warmth in the storm.
The Process
This print was created using the lino reduction method — a single block, carved back further after each of the eight printed layers. This method is final: once carved, there’s no going back, and no possibility of reprinting. It ensures the edition remains strictly limited and full of depth and intent.
Each layer is hand-rolled using Cranfield Relief oil-based inks and pressed onto high-quality Fabriano Unica paper, a blend of cotton and wood pulp that adds subtle surface texture and an archival finish. The result is a print that will last for generations — both in quality and in meaning.
